Based in a Georgian house, this bookshop is everything a second hand bookshop should be. I even love the smell of it. Specialises in antiquarian books, fine bindings, children's illustrated and first editions.
Commonly described as "cheap and cheerful" this bookshop sells new books at incredibly low prices. Be prepared to carry your own weight in books when you leave. Good for crafts and interior design books.
A lovely store with an eclectic selection of books. Very good for plays and theatre related books. The cosy corner where you can sit and read to children makes it even more special.
"Books for Amnesty Hammersmith has a huge stock, hardback and paperback, most of which is in excellent condition. Prices range from £1 to £3.50 for most fiction titles, including hardbacks, with an excellent mix of easy reading and literature, new writers from around the world, foreign language fiction and non-fiction." amnesty.org.uk
Well organised little book shop. Nice art and cult books section, with some weird and unusual books showing up from time to time. Lots of people stop by during their lunch breaks.
I'm recommending this bookshop not only for its excellent selection of books and tempting bargains, but also because its knowledgeable staff has a genuine love of books and always finds the time for a little chat. It also sells cute pencil boxes, mugs and book related gifts.
"Quality Books at Bargain Prices" as their motto goes. Very good selection of art books.
Foster Books baby sister, specializes in out of print and fine bindings. It also sells books by the yard for decorative purposes if you're trying to impress someone with your intellectual and bibliophile credentials
Oxfam's flagship bookshop in London... and what a flagship! A Nimitz class supercarrier to say the least. Holds regular poetry evenings with readings by award winning poets and book fests
Should be renamed Book Lover's Paradise Court, IMHO. An highly atmospheric victorian pedestrian street off Sharing Cross, with nearly twenty antiquarian and second-hand independent bookshops specializing on anything you can imagine.
"A delightful second-hand bookshop with a wide choice that ranges from antiquarian first editions to the bargain basement. Rare books, first editions, modern literature, art and poetry can all be found stacked up on the shelves as well as scholarly and academic books, antiquarian and leather bound sets. Over 19,000 books are stocked - which might help to explain where the shop gets its name from." LondonTown.com
"South Bank Book Market is one of London's best kept secrets. The market is open daily till around 7pm and can be found under Waterloo Bridge in front of BFI Southbank. There are always plenty of bargains to be found and the market traders are book specialists so do ask if you are looking for something in particular." Laura Porter, About.com
Much bigger than it looks from the outside, it's a true Ali Baba's cave with piles of books from floor to ceiling. Very good for military books and classics.
A curious little bookshop that sells second hand and antique books, maps, prints and memorabilia all related to naval and maritime history.

HI!
My suggestion: Quinto Bookshop in Charing Cross Road (http://quintobookshop.co.uk/). I went there a couple of months ago and found a lovely selection of used books.
