AMS Guide to the LES

Some of my favorite places to eat and drink and see and do in the lower east side.

Spitzer's Corner Restaurant

great beer list, and wine; good for groups; can get really crowded on weekends, with an obnoxious card-everyone policy, but still a fun place.

Schiller's Liquor Bar

really can't go wrong with the Moscow Mule, or the nachos here; still sceney after all these years, but as wonderful in the summer with the doors thrown open, as it is in the winter for sunday drinks

Inoteca

hmmm... wine, hmmm cheese, hmmm paninis. love this place for a quaint, italian fringed evening or afternoon.

Marshall Stack

Beer, wine, jenga, afterschool specials. A laid back chill place to meet up with your friends, say hi to the bartender and have a great snack (sloppy joe sliders anyone?)

Doughnut Plant in Brooklyn

sinfully delightful. amazing flavors of all sorts of donuts. if you didn't believe in "breakfast dessert" you will have trying these babies.

Local 269 Bar

friendly bar tenders, eclectic clientele. nothing like its janky predecessor. plus, you're guaranteed to hear kings of leon at least once per evening.

williamsburg bridge in Manhattan

on a nice day, take a walk over the williamsburg bridge into brooklyn (make sure to go left!). great views of the city - going out and coming back in.

Lower East Side Tenement Museum

Great cultural thing to do with out of town visitors - especially if they're into finding out more about the historical immigrant favor to the neighborhood

Clinton Street Baking Co

biscuits! consistently named one of the best breakfasts in the city. be prepared for a long wait, but best to work up a big appetite in any case.

Whole Foods Market - Bowery

best place to go shopping in the 'hood. (well, there's no real competition actually). but if it's shopping good enough for 'top chef', the beastie boys and john mayer, it's good enough for me.

Green Depot Manhattan

super cool new 'green' home goods store. pick up a kitchen compost, refill your cleaning spray, or mix up some eco-friendly paint. a great line of baby's gifts in stock as well.

East Side Co Bar

hard to find, but worth it for the cocktails from the 'milk and honey' crew

White Star

a good out somewhat out of the way place to meet with a group of friends; don't muck around with the bartender and he won't muck around with you

September Wine & Spirits

very knowledgeable, friendly staff can help you pick wines for any occasion. plus they deliver!

88 Orchard St

coffee please! 88 orchard is perfect place to meet for a cuppa joe, or while away a winter weekend doing writing up your business plan

Little Giant

delightful brunches, friendly staff, delectable desserts, little giant is a great, not overly discovered gem

tenbelles in Manhattan

this place rocks for $1 oyster happy hour, good wine, friendly service and a really friendly, relaxed vibe.

We were planning a tour of the tenement museum when this offers an entire day and night to explore... Except for #5, walking around and indulging!!! Thanks...
