If you happen to be traveling from Ventura, California to Middletown, Connecticut, this is how I did it. Warning: we got a little antsy (and bronchits-y) toward the end.

Dip your toes in the Pacific Ocean before embarking on your voyage.
Enjoy lunch here...face it, you might as well take the coastal route to get to the cross-country Interstate-10!
Now that you're eastward-bound, why not stop off at Raging Waters? (Not-so-secret: this was the inspiration for Waterloo in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure." San Dimas High School Football Rules!)
The Golf Ball House is easily visible from Interstate 40...no need to stop, it's the biggest thing for kilometers (miles) around!
If you're already going cross-country, take a day trip to the Grand Canyon. You'll be glad you did!
Not far from the Grand Canyon, Walnut Canyon has impressive ruins from a cliff city inhabited over 700 years ago. Worth going the extra few miles!
I sat next to the cashier's cage and won the price of lunch on the premises: a lovely freshwater trout dish. Didn't get addicted to gaming, though.
Albuquerque is both hard to spell, and quite lovely. Ideally, you'll hit it during top ballooning season, but there's so much else going on.
This is the famous Palace of Gluttony: if you can eat a 72 oz. (slightly over 2 kg) steak in one hour, it's free. And, no, you're not in a "Simpsons" episode.
I love this place! It's a chain, but a good one, with a central atrium. Quite by chance, I stumbled on a bluegrass music convention...fun group!
And now for something completely serious...the Oklahoma City National Memorial reminds us that terrorism is universal.
Off the Interstate, but well worth looking into. Seqouyah was the first Native American to create a phonetic alphabet for his people, the Cherokee Nation
While the Tower itself isn't exactly lovely, ascending its 216 feet rewards the viewer with panaromic views of beautiful lakes, mountains, and forests.
It's a pretty town, and the historic bath house maintained by the National Park Service is gorgeous!
Great site for archeology and history enthusiasts.
You're in Memphis anyway: stop and live a little!
Estate home of Andrew Jackson: Seventh President of the United States and...extremely colorful.
On the inside: a great atrium, indoor swimming, loads of gold albums from country & western singers, pretty good in-house dining...not a bad place to stay!
OK, quite a jump from Nashville to where I-84 crosses the Hudson River. At this point, you just want to get it over with! But a great view of the Hudson here.
Once we got here, I was home...after a fantastic journey!
If you want to finish off your California to Connecticut trip by dipping your toes in the Atlantic well, Connecticut only has Long Island Sound, but that'll do!
Thanks! It really was a fun trip.
Very nice guide! I hope to visit the golf ball house one day -- looks like a lot of fun :-)
