I spent a week in Budapest in 2007. The Paris of Eastern Europe but more affordable. Stellar public transport. 1, 3, 7-day passes available. Public transport info at http://www.bkv.hu/english/home/index.html Sample a different metro route, tram or bus daily. Botel Lisa is dirt cheap & lovely & worth the bus & train trip to go into the city.

Charming budget accommodations on the Danube. Free breakfast in the dining room. Friendly helpful staff.
Buffet breakfast in the dining room overlooking the Danube is included in the price. If it's warm sit outside on the deck & watch olympic rowers show off.
Climb up the stairs to the bus stop on the highway. There are two busses. One of them goes to Kobanya Kispest. Take it.
Dogs are allowed on the buses. I encountered many well behaved mutts.
Sorry. Can't help myself. Had such a great time on Hungarian Busses.
Bus to Kobanya Kispest Station featured an LED readout that clearly identified upcoming stops and also connecting bus/rail lines.
The end of the line. Climb aboard a communist-era metro car & roar into the city.
Buy a bit of sausage and fruit to put in your bag for later. Or purchase lovely embroidery as gifts.
Check out the snack shops on the top floor. Enjoy a glass of Tokay wine. You earned it for being a bold adventurous traveler.
Magical tour hugs the Buda side of the Danube. It's practically free. It's public transport at its best.
Friendly proprietor. Tasty street food at the end of a tram line in the Buda hills.
As in Paris, boat tours are a wonderful way to take in the skyline, the landmarks, the beauty of it all, while sipping a cold drink and hobnobbing...
Ahhh. Beautiful & relaxing. Huge outdoor pool as well as indoor pool. Attendants are kind & helpful to those of us who can't speak magyar. Get a Massage!
The Pest side of Budapest is flat as a pancake. Bike lanes have raised curbs to separate bikes from cars. Courtyard at McD’s & tourist office
Do I really need to explain? Look at this photo! Located in a sprawling city park.
Andrassy-ut felt to me like the Champs-Elysees of Budapest. A leafy boulevard with sidewalk cafes. A bit pricey but a girl's gotta eat...cake.
This is a fairly extensive artist village that is accessible by public transport from downtown Budapest. A pleasant place to spend an afternoon poking around.
Ampitheater of Aquincum and remains of Roman baths are accessible to Budapest via public transport. A quiet place that inspires reflection.
A leafy island refuge in the middle of the Danube between Buda and Pest. I most remember that there is a small bathing beach. Accessible via Margaret Bridge.
On the Danube across from Margaret Island. Hungarian specialties & a lovely river view.
A quiet uncrowded refuge. Wander the cool echoing halls and view lovely objets d'art.
The best part of visiting the Buda Castle, a World Heritage Site, is the spectacular view of Budapest that it offers you.
I should add the photo of the guy with the tatoo!
Seems like you've been so many great places! I need to travel outside the country more. Very nice guide, once again.
