Mercat de la Boqueria in Barcelona

This place is a foodie's dream: the produce is amazing and they have more cured meats and nuts than I'd ever seen. The cafes inside are great too. Don't miss!

La Sagrada Família in Barcelona

Under construction since the 1880s, Gaudi's crazy church is quite a sight. I loved climbing up the narrow spiral staircases to check out the views of Barcelona.

Plaza Mayor in Salamanca

Pretty and lit up at night, full of people and little cafes during the day. Great place for sitting & people watching with a coffee/sangria/wine any time of day

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid

Great collection of 20th century art (mostly Spanish), including Picasso and Dali. Don't miss seeing Guernica and Picasso's early sketches for it in real life.

Parque del Buen Retiro in Madrid

A short walk from the Prado or the Reina Sofia, you can rent boats or just walk around. It's huge, beautifully landscaped, and surrounded by the city.

Museo Del Jamón in Madrid

Not really a museum, but the most ham you've ever seen in one place. I don't even eat ham and it was cool. You can have jamon and cheese and beer at the bar.

Chocolatería San Ginés in Madrid

People supposedly eat churros & chocolate for breakfast; I had it for a late night dessert. The chocolate is dark and thick and yum; you dip the churros in it.

Museu Picasso in Barcelona

Lots of early Picasso in chronological order. The building consists of a few very old mansions, and you can cover the whole thing well in an hour and a half.

Ciudad Condal in Barcelona

So good, I ate there twice in a week! Sit the bar and enjoy pan y tomat, pimientos padrones, sauteed mushrooms, fried squid, clams, anchovies, and/or brochettes

La Tramola in Barcelona

Very cute tapas place. Some things to try: pan y tomat (bread rubbed with tomato and olive oil), pop (octopus) a fiera, and bacalao (salt cod).

Restaurant 7 Portes in Barcelona

Founded in the 1800s, paella is their speciality. It's expensive but really good. We had a version with squid ink in it and delicious gazpacho for a late lunch.

La Rambla in Barcelona

Fun to walk the main tourist drag of Barcelona, it's crazy busy on weekends. During the day there is a bird selling section, a flower section, & an art section.

The problem with working on this thing is that I read these lists and all I want to do is go travel -- this is an awesome list, thanks Arielle!
