More and more people are biking Milwaukee Avenue downtown to work. I appreciate all the local businesses who help to transform the timid into confident bikers and the biking community that teaches classes on how to bike to work in the snow.

When I turned 55 I decided to try biking to work. Surprise -- 4 miles goes by like nothing. Lots of fellow bikers on Milwaukee.
Pull your bike up to the window and grab an espresso, or a media noche, jamon y queso. Real Cuban deal. Always a crowd at their stainless steel counters.
A dedicated 3 mile bike trail in process atop an abandoned RR viaduct & inspired by Promenade Plantee in Paris will extend from Pulaski to the Chicago River.
Free 24 hr parking at the Bicycle Station at Millenium Park. Bike supplies, a repair shop, bike rental bike tours & I-Go car sharing are also available.
Riders fill Daley Plaza and depart at 5:30 on the last Friday of the month for an exhuberant ride through the city with bike-cop escorts and music.
Bikecentric place en route from work. Delicious vegetarian w selections for carnivores as well. Belgian Ales. Patio for nice weather. Plot with de-pavers.
Kevin and his crew keep my bike tuned, fix my flat tires and consult on the best panier (sp??) to transport my laptop. He supports our local homeless shelter.
Use the bus fare you saved biking to work & reward yourself with a burger & onion rings. Take a counter seat with a view of the square. Life is good.
Just arrived in Chicago from Holland. This store sells cargo bikes. You say you want to haul six little kids? No problem. Haul away.
Logan Square Stop. It's rumoured that superstar chef Rick Bayless lunches at this hipster hangout. Fresh local produce. Delicious affordable entrees.
Logan Square Stop. Retro vibe. Views of the Square, good coffee, good people. Park your bike & mingle with fellow travelers. Killer vegan cupcakes. Free wifi.
Perfect your unique biker look with clothing and accessories by local designers. Good for stand-out baby and graduation gifts as well. Local First!
Logan Square. Summer - perfect shady garden to sip mango margaritas & eat fish tacos or acclaimed vegetarian burritos. Winter - upstairs hideaway w fireplace.
Old Photo/New location a few blocks south. Buy a refurbished bike and support bike shipments to developing countries. Good selection. Good prices.

Thank you Brian. The Sculpture in the critical mass picture is a Picasso. Some think it resembles the face of a women. It is located downtown at the Richard J. Daley Center -- not too far from the lakefront.
HI Deb! I didn't realize you were a regular bike commuter too!
Bike and foot. Sometimes I hope on a bus/cta/metra. We have so many options in Chicago.
Hey Deb,
Fellow biker here. Lost the car a few years ago--too much of a nuisance. Far easier to bike, cab or bus. Plus you experience far more of what the city has to offer by bike, not to mention money saved.
Speaking of biking, I gotta mention the Chicago Naked Bike Ride last month. (Nope, I won't post any pics--don't want to offend but interested parties can Google). Hundreds of bikers in various stages of dress and undress rode through downtown Chicago in full view of hundreds of cheering spectators along Michigan Ave. ( I was one of em'). <g>

Great guide. I like the descriptions. Even though they're concise, I feel like their interesting and compelling. What is that sculpture in the critical mass pic?
