Theatre thransformed into library. To me is not only a library but a top 10 destination in Buenos Aires. Comfortable place to read in ancient "cazuelas" but to take a coffee and listen to a tango or jazz band.
Great library in avenida Corrientes (high concentration there of good libraries). Left-wing readers will find what they were looking for, coffee tables to discuss politics and a trip to the 80's!
Classic in Barrio Norte. Full of oldies and keeped by its owners, old nice couple. its worth to see this place that looks like stopped in time.
Founded in 1938, specialized in social sciences, a reference for writers, polititians and those in the cultural scene in the city.
Nice cozzy library in Palermo Soho, for those who just want to get out of the noisy city. Excellent for social sciences.
As you might already know, Buenos Aires has got one of the highest rates of shrinks: this is a library specialized in psycology, you will find everything there!
An absolut must. This bookstore was the crib for generations of Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires students. In your way visiting the Plaza de Mayo area.
You get the impression that this family really cares for books. Rare, old, curious and first editions of argentine and american books, they will find what you have been looking for ages!
J. L. Borges, most important argentinean writer has been its director. Its the national public library and its located not far from beautiful parks. Visit it and take a pic nice not far away. Great view.
I didn't find a picture of it. This is totally personal, I chose it because it's where I frequently go and just love the fact that they are an old couple that has "old methods"!
I knew it was unique, but now I visited I totally understnad it: own bar, own editorial, book presentations, conferences, etc... a total must
Hidden jewell, if looking for history, political sicences or classical music. Do not miss it. As well, they will look any book for you, as old or difficult editions.
thanks josh! its not far from home but getting books there is requires to tqke some time; i went there to study sometimes or to look for research material! but youare right, i should include it! as its public i totally forgot it!
A good bookstore is truly a "home away from home" - this guide makes me want to visit Buenos Aires! Thank you for sharing your favorites, especially El Ave Fenix!
I loved your guide, and as beatricegraham put it: one more reason to visit Buenos Aires someday.
Thanks Beatrice and Joana! Im glad this guide helped you to discover new reasons to visit Baires! Hope you can make it!
thanks for adding Biblioteca Nacional! I've wanted to visit there for quite some time now. Also, what are these "old methods" you speak of? :)
old methods, they don't use computers at all! they keep like small booklets with prices, its all handmade, seems like getting into back to the future!
Nifty! Thanks. Didn't know that about shrinks in Buenos Aires.
hey cielo, thanks! in general, we use a lot of psycological vocab as regular words, you ll see!
i'm so intrigued by #1!! i wish there was such a library here in japan as well.

What a great collection! Do you spend much time in (Borges's) National Library?
